As someone who thrives in the fashion, beauty, and wellness space, attending MakeupIn New York was an incredible opportunity to not only stay up to date with the latest beauty innovations but to connect with industry professionals in a meaningful way. This year’s event was filled with cutting-edge trends, new product launches, and powerful networking opportunities—exactly the type of environment I love immersing myself in.
What is MakeupIn New York?
MakeupIn New York is a beauty industry event that brings together brands, entrepreneurs, product developers, and beauty enthusiasts from across the world. From exploring the latest in makeup and skincare technology to meeting the creators behind some of the industry’s most exciting brands, this event was all about connection, innovation, and learning. For a consultant like me, it’s a prime opportunity to network with like-minded individuals and seek out potential collaborations for brands in the beauty space.
Key Connections Made
One of the highlights of the day was meeting Danessa Myricks, the beauty entrepreneur and makeup artist whose work I’ve admired for years. I was thrilled to connect with her in person after following her journey and using her products. She took a moment to stop and compliment me on my look, which was truly a “pinch-me” moment.
Beyond Danessa, I also had the pleasure of catching up with some industry colleagues, like Manessa Lormejuste, a talented Product Developer and Beauty Scientist, and meeting Camille Genise, the founder of Feloh, a beauty platform I’ve been following closely. The opportunity to interact with individuals who share my passion for beauty and innovation made this experience not just enjoyable but professionally enriching.
Capital One Café: A Mid-Day Break
In between my time at MakeupIn New York and the Feloh Beauty & Business Mixer, I took a much-needed break at the Capital One Café on 34th Street. I’d been curious about the Café ever since I learned that as a Capital One cardholder, you get 50% off all food and drinks—a perk I couldn’t pass up.
I have a Capital One VentureOne credit card and really like it. You should check it out. If you apply using my referral link and are approved, I'll get a referral bonus!
Beyond the discount, the café offers free Wi-Fi and plenty of co-working space, which made it the perfect place to relax while staying productive. I crossed a few things off my daily to-do list, including follow-ups with some of the incredible people I met at MakeupIn, and prepped for the evening event. It was a great spot to recharge, reflect, and prepare for the next networking opportunity.
Power Dressing: Why My Outfit Mattered
As much as I love connecting with people at these events, I also know the power of presentation, especially in the beauty industry. For this event, I went with a power-dressing look that made me feel confident and prepared for a day full of meetings and introductions. I wore an Ivy Park military blazer paired with my favorite wide-leg jeans and burgundy western mules—an outfit that combined comfort with confidence.
If you want to see a full breakdown of the look, you can check out my Outfit Breakdown Video on YouTube, where I talk about how dressing for success influences the types of connections I make and the impression it leaves.

Feloh Beauty & Business Mixer: A Perfect End to the Day
After recharging at the Capital One Café, I headed to the Feloh Beauty & Business Mixer. For those unfamiliar, Feloh is an innovative beauty platform that helps connect beauty lovers with underrepresented beauty entrepreneurs. Meeting Camille Genise, the founder, in person was a wonderful experience, especially after connecting with her on LinkedIn.
This mixer was the perfect blend of networking and community building, and I left with new connections and valuable insights into the beauty business space. The event reinforced the importance of being part of a community that supports emerging beauty brands and entrepreneurs.
Post-Event Recovery: Balancing Productivity and Self-Care
After a full day of walking around in heels, networking, and attending events, my post-event recovery took place the following day. I knew I needed time to both unwind and recharge. I spent the day using my LifePro sauna blanket, which is a staple in my self-care routine. Contrary to popular belief, wellness tools like this aren’t just for post-fitness recovery. For me, it helps soothe the aches and pains after long days of standing and walking in heels.

While relaxing in my sauna blanket, I also incorporated a bit of skincare with my favorite jelly under-eye patches, giving my skin some much-needed hydration and care after a long day. These little touches are part of my home spa essentials, which you can check out on my Amazon Storefront.
While I indulged in this self-care, I also stayed productive by completing my follow-ups with the people I met throughout the previous day. As any professional knows, the real power of networking happens after the event, when you take the time to nurture those connections.
